Introduces new 3.0 versions of Companion and Settings
Research Triangle Park, NC – July 27, 2015: Lenovo today announced it will release two new versions of its flagship applications – Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Both Lenovo-developed applications will come standard on Lenovo PCs preloaded with Windows 10. These two apps have over 10 million users combined worldwide.
Lenovo Settings
Lenovo Settings 3.0 is a “smart” device control hub aggregating all of the most common hardware device functions into one place, making it easy for users to adapt and modify the way their computer or tablet behaves. Among its newest features, Settings offers a unique “Smart Settings” area which leverages built-in device sensors to predict, adapt and modify device settings to suit user behavior – automatically. Settings also showcases a robust “Power” section, which offers customization unique to Lenovo, such as a “Battery Stretch Mode” and “Charge Mode”, which lets users super-charge their battery replenishment.
The ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 includes the best audio you can get in a PC, the custom-designed Dolby Atmos ® Speaker System. This combination hardware and software deliver breakthrough sound across 2 speakers. Listen to enhanced volume without distortion while being immersed within the experience. Enjoy listening through speakers or headphones. To switch off the Enhanced Windows Biometric Security, users have to enter the UEFI configuration, which you normally enter by pressing the F1 button on your keyboard when the Lenovo logo is.
Lenovo Companion
Lenovo Companion 3.0 provides a sleek new interface and a robust optimization tool. Its new optimize feature keeps PCs running at peak performance: it can be used at any time to run a full-scale checkup and report back with specific actions that can free up space and speed up a user’s device. Companion will then complete the actions all within the user’s control.
Companion also provides exclusive Lenovo content to help people get the most out of their PC. Lenovo experts author how-to articles, tips and tricks, and other news to keep users up to date on their PC. The app also gives users customized access to device updates, warranty information, a knowledge base, user guides, discussion forums and even optional accessories complementing their specific machine.
In addition, Lenovo curates content daily from the best publishers from around the web across a variety of topics so users can easily stay current on all the latest industry news, trends and innovations.

While many vendors still include a ton of extra programs that slow down the boot process, Lenovo is working hard to speed up its notebooks' start time, releasing the third-generation of its Enhanced Experience feature set (EE 3). Starting this month, a host of new PCs will comply with the company's new EE 3 standard, which promises to lower the average Windows 7 boot time to just 24 seconds on notebooks with standard hard drives.

Lenovo uses a variety of methods it collectively calls RapidBoot to speed up notebook start times. The software specially defragments the area of the hard drive that holds the boot files and caches them in RAM for faster access. At the same time, the Lenovo device drivers have been optimized to load faster while non-essential software does not start until after boot. Even the BIOS has been tweaked so it posts faster. With the exception of the defragmentation, all of these features should improve the already-fast boot time on Lenovo notebooks with SSDs. A feature called BootShield prevents programs you install from slowing down the start process.
In addition to faster booting, Lenovo's EE 3-compliant ThinkPads promise enhanced security features like a BIOS port lock, a USB blocker and a self-encrypting hard drive. They also provide great conferencing features like dual-array microphones and HD webcams. EE 3-compliant IdeaPads offer an improved speaker design and Dolby Home Theater v4 audio with surround sound support.

Unfortunately, current Lenovo notebook owners can't upgrade their systems to EE 3 because many of the improvements are hardware-based. New laptops that will carry Lenovo's EE 3 certification include the upcoming ThinkPad Edge E430, ThinkPad Edge E530, Essential V480, IdeaPad Y480, IdeaPad U310 and IdeaPad U410.
